Hi, I've scanned previous posts but didn't find anything directly on point and I'm hoping for some specific info. I have a 5 year old with a past medical trauma. Now, we find ourselves with some rather daunting dental work on the horizon and there's no question that this past trauma is making dental visits challenging. Neither nitrous nor an oral sedative were enough to calm her nerves. Her dentist recommends anesthesia to complete the work but I am very reluctact to pursue that route without seriously exploring other options first. I am still working with her dentist but I'm not ready to give up on the idea of getting the work done sans anesthesia.
To that end, I have a few questions. Can anyone please recommend a pediatric dentist with particularly fabulous interpersonal skills? I'm thinking a woman would probably work best for my daughter but I'm open to other options. Also, does anyone else have a similar experience? Can you share with me what worked and why? Lastly, and I'm asking because I truly do not know the answer, can someone please tell me what happens if baby teeth cavities are left untreated?
Thank you for any help you can provide!
