Airline baggage policy definitely won't cover a loss (which is extortion if you ask me) of $300+. Clearly, I'm going to need a bit more coverage than that and my insurance specifically doesnt cover travel. Any leads or suggestions?

If you are buying close to departure, its not expensive because you don't need trip cancellation coverages. You want strictly the post departure coverages.
