Is there anyone here who could tell me where the best place to buy a 16th Century style rapier is? I want something functional, not a wall hanger.

For sparring weapons, we have had good experience with Castille castillearmory.com or Darkwood darkwoodarmory.com. We have found the Zen Warrior blades to be too floppy.

I would highly recommend darkwoodarmory.com Scott can make just about any rapier. If you don't see it on their site give him a call or e-mail. Scott is also a really good fencer so his advice will be good. The ones on Kult of Athena just don't fit the bill.

www.jamesthejust.com is more expensive, but nicer www.alcheminc.com is similar to James the Just, but often takes a long time to deliver www.darkwoodarmory.com is really nice, but priced accordingly castillearmory.com is really nice and usually a little prettier than Darkwood, but, once again, you pay for it
Good day, I am a relatively new to the rapier community (being authorized last month) I am currently fighting with a del tin that I got mainly because the person selling it did not realize what he...
You can never ever go wrong with Darkwood Armory, though you'll be looking a bit north of $200. They are the gold standard for SCA rapier and the extra you spend with them is money well spent. You'll have a light, well-balanced, perirod-researched weapon that you'll use for years. My advice: If you only have $200 available, then continue to use what you are using now until you can scrape together another $100. I would also recommend you try to attend Gulf War and hit their booth early. They always have an excellent selection then, but often sell out before the event is over. http://www.darkwoodarmory.com/ Best wishes,

Might I suggest http://www.DarkwoodArmory.com/ they do pretty good work for practice rapier, schlager and epee hilts... they offer a pretty wide selection as well. Their peirced hilts are not bad, I got to handle many of their and a few other vendors products at Pennsic this year. Alasdair Mackenzie
