Wanting to make my own simple and functional makeup kit for auditions, last minute gigs, ect. What do you recommend to keep in it and any specific...

They make compact baby powder, it's called Baby Magic. It's not expensive and lasts a long time. Great for taking away the shine

Hello Cougar! We sat next to each other at EFP the other night. Hello officially. Sounds like you are looking for just basic makeup items, no fx. Most important thing I carry in my HD beauty kit is a blemish cream with 1% salacylic acid, use up to three times a day to reduce breakouts (spot treat only). Facial moisturizer is a must, then a medium to light coverage foundation (best for men- unless you have skin you need heavier/thicker coverage on) and translucent powder to set it. You can get a primer or mattifying cream for the best "no-shine" effect (put after moisurizer before foundation)- I have a favorite- but don't have the name handy (it is also about $40 for 1/4 oz). An eyebrow/eyeliner pencil in your hair color is good (just go very light, with short strokes). And lastly I highly recommend clear brow tamer (looks like a mascara but clear for brows and lashes, makes a big difference! (can find at walmart or Walgreens with the mascaras). There are lots of great brands, but work with your budget and skin tone as the most important thing. This kit with pro HD supply brands could be as much as $350 for 6 items. Let me know if you want to know some brands, I would be happy to help (been doing film makeup and fx for over 10 years). Also- To reduce the powder look, and to help keep things in place, a spray makeup sealer can be helpful, especially for men.

Bare Escentuals has a new kit coming out in September all in 1 case it comes with foundation, mineral veil (for shine) illuminizer, bronzer AND concealer! Plus the brushes you need to apply the stuff! The case is all black and zips up neatly, perfect for guys who don't want pink makeup and actors on the go!! (I just went into a store yesterday and saw it!)
