Chiros were into mental health it seems particularly in the 1940's and 1950's mostly. Several books are on it and most famously Palmer had Clear View. Call Palmer and talk to their archives. Also read Quigley's series on Clear View from Dynamic Chiropractic a number of years ago. You can find those online, but Palmer Library, Special Collections/Archive is probably the best pace to begin your search.

In the 40's and 50's, the National Chiropractic Association created the Council of Psychology. Herman Schwartz, D.C. was the founding President and Francis I. Regardie, D.C., was the founding VP. The Journal, Chiropractic History, as had two articles about the Council and those two chiropractic founders.

Schwartz' hardcover book, "Mental Health and Chiropractic" has some info in it, but this was also going on in a big way BEFORE the 1940's. Forest Park (Palmer) predated Clearview (also Palmer, which opened in August 1935). Judge Ponath made his judic ial ruling to send mentally ill in their state to Forest Park years before Clearview opened. I have Ponath's stuff with those cases as reading material in the reception room. Contact Alana Callender, EdD or Dr. Roger Hynes at PCC. They would likely point you in a good direction. Also, a county mental health hospital in Iowa was working with Paul Peters (Mardid, IA--PCC 1989 grad) as they found great changes in a few people he was providing Chiropractic care (purely chiropractic care). As I recall, they asked him to expand and care for more of the patients there. Might have some good data at the mental hospital there. They called him in and showed him charts and graphs they had been keeping on those patients without his prior knowledge and were astounded at the changes. This is from a conversation we had years back, but he may be able to put you in contact with those folks that approached him with the data they had been keeping.
