I'm curious why you are limiting it to no-kill shelters. The cats there have a better chance of survival. Both the Durham Animal Protection Society and Wake County Shelter are full of cats right now (kitten season) and desperately need adopters.

I have had good experiences with both [Best Friend Pet Adoption](http://www.bfpa.org) and with [Second Chance](http://www.secondchancenc.org). I'm adopting a cat through Second Chance right now and know a foster mom who is awesome. I attempted a dog adoption through Best Friend and had a really good experience, too bad my cats didn't take to the dog at all...

Check out the Goathouse Refuge in Pittsboro, they have a ton of cats that are socialized really well. I had a good experience with Second Chance as well.

This was a while ago, but Paws4Ever in Mebane is an awesome no-kill APS shelter and I volunteer there.

I volunteer with Independent Animal Rescue and would highly recommend them. I am also a foster parent, and have 3 kittens right now :) Kittens/Cats are showcased at the various Petco's in Durham. Go to Animalrescue.net for more info!!!

Look at petfinder.com and put in your zip code and willing to travel to. If you adopt its one more they can save and you'll know its healthy and fixed already.
