My friend's family owns http://www.irvinegoldmine.com/ and has always done a great job on my (vintage) wedding ring (resizing, replacing a missing diamond). I have other friends who have had their engagement and wedding rings custom made here as well.

If you have the time, go up to the jewelry district in LA. They have millions (literally) of settings or can do custom work and it will be much cheaper than anywhere in OC. I got my wife's ring at this place: http://www.bridalrings.com and would recommend them to anyone.

Go to Asian Garden Mall in Westminster, they have tons of jewelers there that do tons of custom settings. It would probably be a lot cheaper than going to some large store at a mall.

I got my ring resized at Nuggets and Carrets in South County. My mom has been getting jewelry worked on by them for years and they are impeccably honest.

NQ Jewellers in Fountain Valley, it's over 8,000 square feet and has a ton of modern styles. My family has been going to their stores for at least 10 years. They have upgrades and buybacks (80-90% of the price you paid on diamonds), no other jewelry store does this. My only complaint is that sometimes you will get a ~~pushy~~ overly helpful sales person, but if you are polite they will generally leave you alone. First rule: NEVER accept the first price they offer ESPECIALLY if it is the price marked on the jewelry. If there is something you're really interested in, just say "what is the best price you can sell this for?" Good luck! [Link here](http://www.yelp.com/biz/nq-jewellers-fountain-valley)
