Mountain View Grand Hotel - we stay there every summer. It's a beautiful grand old hotel that was completely renovated about 10 years ago...beautiful views of the mountains. It's very family friendly too! It's about 15-20 minutes away from Santa's Village. http://www.mountainviewgrand.com

The Hampton Inn & Suites in North Conway is nice, clean, free breakfast and has a little indoor water park.

Julian, I live up this way and I would recomend The Cabot Motor Inn in Lancaster. It's about 5 miles from Santa's Village, has a rest., bar and is clean!

We generally book through bnbboston.com. In any case, don't be afraid to stay in Cambridge or Somerville. It's super easy to get around on the T.
