Hi, I will be teaching personality for the first time at my CC this fall as well. I'm also not choosing the book, but we will be using Engler. I haven't dug around here much yet, but there is a pedagogy of personality wiki that looks really helpful. http://personalitypedagogy.arcadia.edu/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Main.HomePage

Kate, (so happy for you!) you can go with a theories approach or a research/approaches-based approach. Engler (which I've used) is a more or less traditional theories approach which includes a final chapter on spiritual/non-Western perspective. I've also used Cloninger which was great and quite challenging for my students. I've also used Feist & Feist (clearly I was never happy, but I'd go back to Cloninger for that type of text). I know that if ever I teach it again, I will likely use an approaches/research focused text (less Freud as foundation, more science as foundation) like Funder's. I highly recommend a casebook, but I don't have it here at home. I'll check my shelves at school tomorrow.:)
