Looking for a good Doctor, GP, or internal medicine that also takes care of women and hormone issues. Any good recommendations?
Brenda M. replied:
Dr. Gonzales in Ventura. BTW see an endocrinologist for hormone issues. I strongly recommend a woman specialist.

Angie C. replied:
I know Dr. Robin Bernhoft personally as he attended one of my "pay it forward vegan meals" and Dr. Kafka I cooked for a few times years ago when he was wanting a specialized menu for his personal issues, although they are men, they are both here in town and are not fast to write out prescriptions~
Bernhoft had me do a 30-day saliva hormone test that was very revealing and told him exactly what my hormones were doing over a month. As a result, I was able to get the exact bio-identical hormone prescription that my body needed and problem was solved. Medical Arts Pharmacy has the bio-identical hormones made and the price is not too bad.
Anne M. replied:
Dr. Bernhoft is an impressive doctor, into natural healing. Very comprehensive and thorough!
Karen D. replied:
Not a fan of Dr. Hiltner ! I went to him very ill and he sent me home with some oils and such. Well the next day I was in the ER then spent 5 weeks fighting for my life. Wish he could have zoned in on the severity of my sickness. Just saying....
Kay R. replied:
Mary Evans is a nurse practitoner and I would not go to anyone else. Talking to Mary is like talking to one of your girlfriends. 646-0151
Linda P. replied:
Jill Hall in Ventura is very good
Lori P. replied:
Don't go to Dr. Wilson.
Liz V. replied:
For my hormone issues, I go to Christine Farrell in Westlake Village. Yes, it's a schlep but no one in this area, has a real clue on hormones. Seriously. Not being negative, it's a fact. A bit closer is Martha Gonzalez but I was not that pleased with her either. Christine is an awesome lady and knows her hormone stuff. I use Mary Evans for all my other stuff. Love her.
Andy R. replied:
Martha Gonzales in Ventura. She's located a block from the Hospital.
Judith B. replied:
Dr Lisa Solinas in S.Paula. Head of the clinic there. Excellent woman's MD. OB/GYN /Family Practice. Have gone to her for years, and just love her.
Holly T. replied:
Dr. Robin Bernhoft here in Ojai helped me with my hormone issues and I think he now has a woman on staff that specializes in bio-identical hormones. Definitely recommend and he is here in town!
Bonnie W. replied:
Dr. Kafka here in Ojai has helped me so much. Just with supplements he has helped keep me steady. He also understands about adrenal and thyroid issues and he knows a lot about bio-identical hormones if you want to go that direction.
Carolyn M. replied:
Deborah Maragopoulis is a nurse practitioner and is highly knowledgeable about internal medicine, women and hormone issues. On the down side, she charges a lot. Still, she's the best I've ever found and knows more than most MD's, imho.
Hello to the wonderful Ojai Community!
I am looking to establish a relationship with a medical doctor-internist trained in the Western Medical Model. I am looking for...
Bonnie W. replied:
I really like Dr. Kafka. He's trained in both Western and Eastern medicine. He's willing to work with other practitioners and he always goes to alternative options before suggesting prescriptions. He takes a whole-person approach. He's an MD but acts more like a naturopath.
Moses K. replied:
You know I really like Dr. James Gay in Oak View He is on my Medicare panel I think/feel he is competent and open
Moses K. replied:
I'll say a little more. I don't think of Dr. Gay as being all that "alternative", and I don't know what his training or real experience is in that area. But I consider myself as quite alternative- having been trained and practiced as a chiropractor and holistic healer in the past. But I appreciate his knowledge and insight from his perspective and I like him as a person. He's at the Center for Family Health- the building in the middle of Oak View on the right as you are heading to Ventura. I think it's part of the CMH, Community Memorial Hospital? system. Not sure of the names. As always be prepared to deal with one if not several bureaucracies in an attempt to get your health needs met.
Pam P. replied:
Yes Moses, that is part of CMH....I see Dr. Steven Barr in Ventura at the CMH Center for Family Health on Ashwood....I like him very much too....
In search of doctor referrals. I've been here in Ojai about a year and would like recommendations on doctors - an internist and an oncologist would be great. Just tell...
Rebecca W. replied:
Dr. Doug Nelson and Dr. Jim Halverson are awesome!!!
Rebecca W. replied:
And if you need a dermatologist, Dr. Robert Jordan in Ventura!
Carri J. replied:
I like Dr. Petroff for a family physician
Pam P. replied:
I like Dr. Steven Barr at CMH Family Clinics on Ashwood in VTA.....there are Drs. Up here with CMH Family Clinics, I just don't know them.....near the Hospital by Keeler Center and in Oak View on Ventura Ave.
Anne M. replied:
Have you seen Dr. Bernhoft? He also does a lot with alternative medicine, I highly recommend him!
Anca C. replied:
Maria Halvorson, as a Family Physician. Attentive. Follows you up well.
