Hey r/Vancouver, where do you buy your meat? Hey all,
I'm looking for suggestions on a place to buy some good, high\-quality steaks and other cuts that also won't break...
ClutzyMe replied:
Not in Vancouver proper but we buy at Queens Deli and Meats in New West. Have also bought great quality, fair-priced meat at Windsor Quality Meats on Main. The long and the short of it though, is that if you want quality, be prepared to pay a bit more.

Nikuya in Richmond!

If you want quality then Nikuya in Richmond. They specialize in wagyu. It can be quite pricy however.

Cioffi's. Bit out of the way for me, but always worth it.

$20 for four striploin is a good deal! Will check it out.

If youre in the tri cities area mon-sat there is a place in the mary hill industrials called artic meats. Great quality and prices. 5 beautifully marbled new york strips, about 7 oz each, for like $26 or something.

I just hang out at the bar at the American Hotel (1), and wait for some sketchy dude to walk up to me in a trench coat and whisper "Psst... hey buddy... you wanna buy some meat?" This actually happened to me, I swear it. He then opened the trench coat and, I shit you not, taped to the inside was countless zip locks of frozen meat, of every type and style. I stared at him for a few seconds and, wanting to close the deal, he further whispered: "It's Grade A!" Ah, Vancouver in the 90 s. Post-logue: I did not, in fact, buy the meat. (1) Yes, this dates me.

Butcher shops tend to be more expensive because they tend to have higher quality product. (Before people freak out at this statement - yes, you can get good quality meat at the supermarket, and no, the butcher isn’t always better quality.) I prefer [Hopcotts](https://www.hopcottmeats.ca) out in Pitt Meadows. It’s a bit of a drive for me now, but I don’t eat that much meat so it’s worth it for me to take the time and spend the money to get better quality.

IGA is our go-to for meat. Very reasonably priced, decent quality and good selection. Typically an overpriced grocery store but their meat is as reasonable as it gets. Could easily get a pack of 4 good sized striploin steaks for in and around the $20 mark. Edit: The Broadway/Vine location in particular has a great selection of steaks
