My first sewing machine was a Singer Simple. It was great for small jobs (thin fabrics) but it got messed up when I tried to sew thick materials with it. They are relatively cheap machines so sometimes the cost of repairing is not even worth it. I find with sewing machines you definitely get what you pay for! If you plan on sewing for a long time, then I'd look into nice ones as an investment. I ended up getting a used Janome DC2007le. It is a computerized machine but since I got it pre-owned it was really affordable. For beginners I don't think I'd recommend a computerized machine because you'd be more prone to mistakes when you first start out and the computer inside can become damaged! I would definitely look into used machines though, because you can get a great sewing machine for a fraction of the price. The man at the sewing machine repair shop told me not to get too caught up in brand names either. While Singer and Brother machines are well-known, that doesn't mean they're always the best!

I just got the Brother CS7000X recently and really like it! But I'm just starting to learn how to alter so my opinion might not be valid aha

Hi! I have a brother CS6000 i. It’s awesome and I watch a lot of YouTube videos that also use it. There’s so much you can do with it, but it’s also great for beginners.
