I have a page on my website where clients have spoken about their experiences with me as their doula. Research also supports the use of a doula to improve satisfaction with birth, lower intervention rates, increase maternal bonding. I'm sure you'll get some great advice here! I've had 3 births at the birth center without interventions. Each time I wanted to hire a doula but talked myself out of it because of financial constraints. Let me just say that last October I really wished I had hired one. My husband had a nasty cold, and he felt so awful that he wasn't able to be as supportive as he wanted to be. Also, if your husband really hasn't done any research (like my very well intentioned husband), he is going to need a doula's direction to be able to support you. My birth happened on a day when several other babies were also coming, so the midwives were very busy. Everything turned out well, though, and how thankful I am for the birth center and wonderful staff! Judy Weber Vastine has been there for my deliveries each time and let me tell you, she is a rock! So gentle and encouraging during those intense final moments.:)
