I don't care what you say but my purchases all had Gala Decor on the receipts, made enough purchases while they were there

It was Gala Decor. http://www.nytimes.com/.../area-in-queens-awaiting-bush... Here's a random ny times article I found that mentions the store and the owner.

. I'm just trying to pick up a little more information and I'll be completing (for now) the description of this building, fairly soon. It seems to me that, at one point, this building may have housed Arion Furniture. Anyone have any information about that? Thanks for all the help and information, so far. We all know a lot more now, than when I started this.
Carol S. replied:
I think 75-15 was Arion Furniture owned by Mr. Schipero. 75-17 at that time was a shoe store owned by and I can't remember his name, but his brother had his Doctor's offive around the corner on 74 st.

. Carol - Ut Oh! I think one of us is getting this reversed . . . and I hope it's not me but it may well be. The shoe store you are referring to was owned by Harry Kaiser and I always thought it was the building I had lived in. Joe Shapiro had two partners (Sam & Bernard (Bernie) Goldsmith) and Bernie's daughter (Selma Goldsmith Sagalow) had told me that 73-17 was Arion Furniture (and the shoe store was next door at 73-15) I will admit though - when trying to get a more accurate date that the building was built, I did find a Certificate of Occupancy was issued in 1924 for 73-17 to a Mr. Kaiser and wondered why the shoe store was opened next door, instead of in the same building. On the other hand, I believe the building was owned by the "senior" Mr. Kaiser and that Harry (who opened the shoe store) was his son. I do have a call in to both Selma Goldsmith Sagalow and Alex Scheinfeld and hope to get some clarification. In the meantime, I hope anyone who had additional info or knowledge (especially about Arion Furniture and the years it was open) will let us hear from them. Thanks

Yes ask Alex, he might know the information you are looking for. I remember the furniture was opened at least in the early 50's if not earlier. Mr. Shapiro also owned the building where my Grandmother had her resturant. I remember him offering to se ll her the building in the 50's for I am thinking $25,000.00. She was never able to buy it. He was a great landlord. And thanks, for reminding me it was Mr. Kaiser who owned the shoe store. He was still there in the early 70's because that is where I bought all my boys their Stride-rite shoes.
