Looking for a nice place to camp near Pensacola or Panama City the week after Christmas. Any suggestions you might share? Thanks!
Sharyn N. replied:
Those are both good. Ft. Pickins is a favorite. It has great beaches and you are close to the boardwalk or town if you need something or want to go eat. However, we love Cape San Blas. You can park with the rear end hanging over the marsh and wake up on a different planet. Last time we stayed there 20+ raccoons came to visit our campfire while we were sitting there enjoying the evening. They were quite polite and although we didn't have any food out, they sat and visited a bit before continuing their rounds. It is a little farther east. Though

Pensacola is my hometown. Definitely recommend Ft. Pickens. I stay there during the summer when I go home to visit.

This is a beautiful campground with almost 500 spaces, but it's hard to get into, just a little west of Pensacola. http://www.gulfshores.com/details/gulf-state-park-campground/178/

This one is beautiful as well http://www.nps.gov/guis/planyourvisit/campground-openings-in-florida-and-mississippi-districts.htm
Just wondering if any Ardmore parents have recommendations for elementary age summer camp programs. Have any of you tried St. John's Lutheran's program?
Sarah H. replied:
Redeemer Presbyterian church has a great camp the week of July 21 st. Ardmore Methodist has a camp during the month of July for pre-k kids. Both are wonderful.

Have heard really good things about St Johns from friends. First Christian on Country Club Rd is another option. Salem Gym is a little pricier but great and there is also the YMCA. All of those offer full and half days all summer.

Merrywood Christian Camp, Clemmons.

Old Salem has an option: http://www.oldsalem.org/summer-camps
Kathleen I. replied:
If you are looking for PreK full day, then they have to be licensed. The Y and others do not hold those licenses for under kindergarten. You can piece together pricey camps that are weekly, but St Johns is the best full day, all summer PreK that I have found.

Reynolda House has great half-day camps in art & creative writing. http://www.reynoldahouse.org/learn/program/summer-adventures

Forsythe Country Day has neat week long camps in different areas on interest (e.g. Lego camp).
I'm looking for info on Adventure Guides summer camp. Don't see anything about it on the YMCA camp guide. Can anyone help?? Thanks!
Adventure P. replied:
How-How! Officially there isn't a Camp Salty Dog or AGP Camp. However, last year I ran Camp Blazing Trails at the Jerry Long Family YMCA. For info on that, contact Kim McLure k.mclure@ymcanwnc.org.
Adventure P. replied:
Salty Dog will be working with Day Camp AND Resident Camp this summer at Camp Hanes! A bus leaves from the William G. White, Jr. Family YMCA each morning to take kids up to Camp Hanes for day camp! You should send your kids this summer!
