My daughter has a 2007 ford mustang that needs the clutch and slave cylinder replaced. Anyone know a good but not super expensive mechanic who can do that maybe? ...

Try Auto Tech at 824-9154.

Thanks Dennis.... Does Dennis Robertson work with Chris or have his own garage. I don't have your #. Mine is 606-0611. I don't mind calling them... I am schooling up on all of this car stuff... Lol. My Ex always did all of this. We thought it was just the clutch and was gonna be around $600 and now it includes the slave cylinder and the price went to a lot more. I have been pricing parts which are much cheaper then what garages are telling me when they give me a quote but won't give me a warranty if I bring in the parts. I was told the clutch kit for her car was$700 by Blgtn. Tech and pep boys priced it for me at $409. Slave cylinder was $300 and pep boys said $148. So looks like they want to make a nice profit off of parts. Her and my $ is limited and it's frustrating they want to rip you off on parts!
Dan A. replied:
And Betsy, if you find a shop that will install your parts, they'll still be warranted by the place you bought them, just not the shop labor. Also, try RockAuto.com and get a Motorcraft slave cylinder. No way would I put a Chinese Autozone/O'Reilly's/Advance part in my Mustangs. Clutch isn't a bid deal, but definitely get the Motorcraft slave cylinder. Also there is a place off Vernal Pike on Industrial called Circle Distributing. They sell Ford (Motorcraft) parts way cheaper than the dealer.
Any recommendations in Bloomington for a mechanic that is reasonably priced and fair ? I need a V6 engine for a 2000 Ford Explorer and installation. Anyone have any idea...

Anyone in Bloomington have a legitimate mechanic they could recommend??
Andrew C. replied:
http://www.allroadmotorsports.com/ I've gone there a few times. He works on Euro imports and knows what he is doing and good prices.
Alex G. replied:
http://www.flextunetech.com/ He's a little out of the way, but I've been to Mike at Flextune three or four times now since my Subaru Legacy is getting way up there in miles. The guy is the most honest mechanic I've ever had. Always does a fantastic job, and has been the cheapest every time I've compared.

I'm not entirely sure who's the best around town, but I can **assure you** that Doug's Auto Repair (S. Walnut) is run by a family of malevolent, drug-abusing rednecks. In fact, I'll double down on that, simply because I went to high school with two of the dude's kids in Brown County (his son works there with him) and I've seen how they act and treat people, AND not long ago, he underquoted and overcharged my GFATM by more than $140 for a part and repairs that he said would "absolutely cost no less than $80," later refusing to remove the piece, leave her car, and/or let her walk for free, let alone figure out any kind of reasonable solution. Don't go to Doug's Auto. Wish I could be more helpful, but I hope this at least steers you clear from them. I won't be too surprised when the whole shop goes up in flames coz their methlab blew up.

I do not recommend High Speed, there's Lee's Automotive out on N. Walnut heading North it's before the Par 3 golf course (he helped me out once), I would say FlexTune is a go though or my first choice at this point.

Tom cherry mufflers and Eric's diagnostics are the only 2 places in town I trust. Eric's great but usually has a week wait to look at it. And Tom cherry I know does more than just exhaust but you'd have to call to see if they can do that.

A 2007 Pontiac. Well, you've got 2 choices here. Take it to Curry, where factory trained technicians will look at it or go somewhere else. The risk with somewhere else is that it could be jim bob who's good with his hands or an excellent ASE certified mechanic. I stay away from the Jim Bobs, you should too. Auto Choice and Flex Tune have been good for the other place scenarios.

Sturgis Garage and Wrecker Service on the northwest side. Jason Sturgis is the owner and he and his mechanics always perform solid repairs on my car for a fair price. I’m taking it in more these days because it’s a 2002 Volkswagen Golf. My husband and I share a car and as long as I call ahead five days or so (sometimes less) he is good about getting it in that week and back to me same day. He’s replaced a coolant hose, put on new breaks and rotars, replaced tie rods, and I’m getting a tune up this week.

Do I have any mechanic friends? I really need someone to take a look/listen to my car. Maybe even drive it so they can feel how it's pulling...or can anyone recommend...
Amy O. replied:
Melissa ...I'm going to take it to Cross Paint and Body tomorrow and have then look at it first because they did all of the front end work on it after it was hit. I want to make sure it's not something they should have taken care of before I do anything but def if I need it looked at further I will get in touch with you to talk to him. I'm just over 100 k mi so it's due for some general maintenance stuff anyway. I just hate taking it to a shop. You never know how slimy people can be when it comes to auto care! Thank you!
