Looking for a gym as a student at IU, I have access to the gyms on campus. With that being said, I'm not a fan of either the SRSC or the WICK. I've considered going to...

Don't be intimidated by The Iron Pit's meathead appearance. Their clients are everyone from elder care rehab patients to Olympic athletes. Go in and talk to Matt or Doug (owners) about your goals, and they'll help you get there. They want to help. They're the best gym for a hundred miles, reasonable rates, and the most knowledgeable staff. Tldr; The Iron Pit.

The girlfriend and I are regulars at Planet Fitness. It seems to be exceptionally beginner-friendly, always clean, and has tons of available machines. Certainly worth checking out!

As a former IU student, and constant gym rat, why don't you like the SRSC? I had never lifted before I got to IU and the SRSC was always great, it's where I got my start. If you'd like to PM me for some advice, or where to start I'd be happy to help out!

go to top floor of wic if you dont like lower floor, a lot of women work out there. without being a student it's like 600 dollars to use these gyms for good reason. you are wasting money if you go somewhere else

I use the Southeast YMCA, it's pretty good there, but can get pretty crowded at times. YMCA membership in BTown gets you access to both Southeast and Northwest buildings.
LGBT-friendly gyms Hi everyone,
I’m looking for a new gym that is welcoming of LGBT people and has a robust LGBT clientele - do you have recommendations? Bonus points...

Every gym I've been to in town is very LGBT friendly. Honestly in Bloomington, I don't associate specific places with LGBT friendly, it's a cultural thing, no one really cares here!

Planet fitness doesn’t have gender neutral locker rooms but lots of trans and queer people go. I’ve never got weird looks as a trans person in the locker rooms there. Everybody minds their own business in general at PF. Plus, it’s $10/month
