I just moved here a couple of months ago and I need to find a good pediatrician. Any recommendations for a good one in the West End area? Before we moved here my son was...

We see Dr Sutherland at Associated in Pediatrics (Nuckols & Shady Grove)...love her! Not sure about SPD, but they could always recommend if not! Good luck & welcome to RIC!
http://pahpartners.com/m/our-doctors/. Dr Seliskar gets sensory issues. Not in west end but worth driving for a good doc.
Lara R. replied:
Dr Terry at Va Peds. We've seen all others there as well and love them all.
Jennifer F. replied:
Our ped office is Pediatric Assoc of Richmond. LOVE them. That being said, there is one doc in particular I will not go back to after my request for a dye free antibiotic was ignored (you would have thought I had asked him to make penicillin in his office). I won't say the name on here (feel free to message me if this is a concern for you and would like to avoid this doc). My son goes to Esther Bucher for his SPD. She's wonderful but she's in Mechanicsville so it would be about a 30-40 minute drive for you depending on traffic. I like that I can go to her rather than her coming to me like most OTs. Too much chaos here!!
Stephanie W. replied:
Try Dr. Shreve at Pediatric Associates. I switched to them when I felt my concerns were not taken seriously at another group. I think he is wonderful. We've been there 7 years now.
Karen W. replied:
I'm with Adina, we love Dr Sutherland at Pediatric Associates on Nuckols!
Bonnie H. replied:
Dr. Shreve is our favorite too! Love him!

Another fan of Pediatric Associates of Richmond. We go to the Three Chopt offices, favorite docs, in order are: Dr. Snead, Dr. Nelson, Dr. Mapp, Dr. Shreve, Dr. Andrako and Dr. Weber -- Dr. Snead caught my daughters CHDs at her 2 month appointment, and he stayed with another one of my daughters when she was having a severe asthma attack in the office, my middle daughter had just been born by c/s and he did EVERYTHING in his power to help us avoid having to take my oldest daughter to the ER, because he knew I needed to be home with the new baby, recovering and he did not want the new baby near the germs in the hospital. He told me the next day was his day off, but he'd have someone check in on us to make sure she made it through the night w/o a visit to the ER. HE himself called me on his day off to check on her... this after staying WELL past office closing the night before, to take care of my girl. His care for my children has been 100% amazing. I cannot say enough good about him! He's snarky and goofy, but you just have to know that is his personality! He also took me VERY seriously when I told him about some concerns with my youngest child. He set up an appointment for us with MCV's Pediatric Neurology department and because of that, my daughter's tethered cord was found and she had one of the best Neurosurgeons successfully operate on her in November 2012. Truly, I'll be lost if he retires before my kids are 18! Thankfully, I think we have some time! ;)
Michelle B. replied:
Love the Drs and all the staff at Pediatric Associates of Richmond- Dr. Shreve is who our kids see. He's awesome! Dr. Snead is too!
Alexandra I. replied:
I think interviewing pediatricians is a great way to go and you can ask them what they think and how they treat SPD. You just call the practice and make an appt to talk to a doctor to see if they are a good fit. I personally would go with a smaller practice because then you see your doctor ever time who knows your family and your unique circumstances even if it's "just a sick visit." We go to West End Pediatrics at the corner of Gaskins and Patterson (9600 Patterson Ave). My husband (Scott Iwashyna) is a pediatrician there and he's great with kids with special needs. We actually see Dr. Colley because it let's my husband be the dad and not the doctor, but he chose this practice because it let him develop strong relationships with his families who have his cell phone number. He's even made house calls! Anyway, whomever you chose, remember that they are supposed to be on your team, and if you feel dismissed, talk to your doctor or change your doctor. The most important thing is that your family is getting the support y'all deserve and all pediatricians believe that but not all are going to be the right fit for every family. Welcome to Richmond!

We go to Pediatric Associates of Richmond (corner of Patterson and Three Chopt) and have been by pleased. Very flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) and always willing to help direct you for after hours care (which we have taken advantage of more times than we wish!). They have lactation consultants on staff which made a huge difference for our family in the beginning.
Lisa P. replied:
I have also been going to Pediatric Associates of Richmond since we moved here in 2005. Great staff. Never an issue getting in. Have Saturday morning emergency appts. Awesome doctors.

We've been really pleased with Pediatric Associates of Richmond. We see Dr. Andrako, but my experience with the entire staff (and physicians on call) have been excellent. They also have lactation consultants for nursing moms.

We go to VA Pediatrics (Overton, Wiley, Kirchmier, Terry & Rowe) at 10410 Ridgefield Pkwy. We see Dr. Heyman and love it there.
