My son is having issues with eczema - manageable with steroid cream and moogoo, but I am looking for a longer term solution. I recently tried soy-based formula and...

Eczema is hard because the causes and effective treatments are different for everyone. We had allergy tests done for my daughter when she was 6 months old. The results were positive for soy, nuts, sesame, eggs and dairy. Her skin has been so much better since. We saw Dr Moore at Wesley Auchenflower.

My son had it very bad at 2 yrs where he had to have wet bandages on and we had tried everything. Need to find cause. If contact eczema, look at creams, clothes, clothes wash etc. We went to Dr John Ryan at Aspley and his wife is a dietician. Dust mites was another cause so put mattress in sun and spray it with eucalyptus and tea tree and dust mite covers on mattress/pillow. Wash sheets in warm water with vinegar instead of fabric softener. Clean carpets etc. Did full change of diet, but is now eating normally, including yoghurt everyday instead of limiting it. He has kept himself on rice milk as doesn't like taste of cows milk. He is now 6.5 yrs and only has little outbreaks. Don't use Moogoo if allergic to cows milk, we didn't put two and two together! Good luck! Everyone is different, but that's our story.

Get a bath and shower filter. If you own your own home, a whole house filtration system. Research purewatersystems.com.au on the Gold Coast located in Burleigh Heads. They have evidence on their website which shows that skin disorders are made worse by the chemicals (especially chlorine) in our water. People have noticed dramatic improvements in this since installing water purification. It is healthier all round.

Buy Tui Bee Balme online from NZ. My child had eczema from head to toe for many years, and this was the only gentle treatment that seems to have cured his eczema.

Look at the http://fedup.com.au/ website has some info on eczema that may be helpful!

You can manage the symptoms....steroid creams, drugs etc etc but in reality you need to address the cause. Most diseases start in the gut. We help hundreds of mums - imagine how it would be if there were no symptoms as opposed to 'controlled' symptoms? Also look out for TEA PEG and DEA in supposedly safe treatments - not just SLS and the more well known ingredients. PM me or email iamjanmorris@gmail.com

I agree with Tonya. We stuck with Dr. Stober because of Beth also. She is amazing.
Raelene G. replied:
Tonya, What you said just captured my attention because we went through the same thing with Dr. Emery. We love OC Pediatrics. It was tough when Dr. Emery passed away. With a special needs child there are many factors that effect who we see. I am actually very pleased with Dr Stoeber. But we stayed because of Beth.

Dr. Rosborough is no longer at Willamette Falls Pediatric, so we now use Dr. Kendra Long. She is younger and does so well with Katie. Katie LOVES going to the Dr. with her. With a little girl, I am a little overprotective and wanted a female pediatrician for when she gets a little older...

Tonya B. replied:
I recommend OC Pediatrics on Glen Oak/213. I feel like your doctor is only 1/2 of the equation. You will deal with the nurse for anything you call in about and deal with the receptionists for all scheduling and paperwork. They are an important factor. I would recommend that you try some of the different doctors at OC Pediatrics. Before Jackson was born one of the things that drew me there was that they have separate waiting rooms for well kids and sick kids (I'm not sure if that is common). Jax was early and we didn't have time to meet with doctors. So in the hospital we wrote down Dr. Nielsen because she was my family's doctor. When a baby is born, if the doctor you wrote down at the hospital is not working that day, they will send whoever is on call from the office to meet you at the hospital. They sent Dr. Emery and we loved him! So we changed and saw him for both of the boys. We loved him, but he passed away last Christmas. So we tried all of the other doctors in that office; Dr. Resk, Dr. Clarke and Dr. Neilsen. It took awhile for them to replace Dr. Emery, so we saw the other doctors a few times and they were all pretty good. We decided to go with the new doctor that replaced Dr. Emery. His name is Dr. Troy Stoeber and we really like him. He is younger than the other doctors and pretty funny. I feel like I can ask all of my questions (without feeling dumb). Some doctors are good with kids, but make the parent feel uncomfortable (Dr. Neilson is a bit like that for me). Anyway, the main reason we waited and went with Dr. Stober is because we LOVE our nurse Beth. We see the same nurse every time we are there and if I have any questions I call into the office and she is always the one who calls me back to answer my questions. I love it that she knows my boys and I can tell on the phone that she remembers their medical history stuff and I don't have to keep explaining it. I like feeling like she knows the child we are talking about over the phone. Anyway, OC Pediatrics is a great office. I feel comfortable with whoever is on call if I need something late at night or on the weekend. You should check them out and see who you like. Give Dr. Stoeber a chance, even though he is the new guy. This is the longest post I have ever written - I guess I was just waiting for the right topic for me.
Looking for a new pediatrician for my son.... he'd like it to be a male doctor, I'd like him to be in the Canby/OC area if possible but good health advice is of course...
Carol F. replied:
Oh! I LOVE Tommy's. Just switched him last winter. I was never crazy about the pediatrician we had, but he's never sick that often, so I never switched. We had that emergency "tick" situation. We saw Dr. Stoeber. Love him! Oregon City pediatric Building. 14279 S. Glen Oak Rd. 503-657-7629.

Dr Warren? By club fit he's nice and good I think lol
Curt S. replied:
Best is Dr. Richard Barsotti of Metropolitian Pediatrics. They are off Johnson Creek and 205 in Clackamas. He is the best. Only dr you know that will come to the hospital on his day off to check on his patient, he will call you back personally, not his nurse. He also monitors the computer constantly for progress when your child is in the hospital and he is at the clinic. He is the best. Ask around, they all know him.
Curt S. replied:
Dr Barsotti also loves it when there's a challenge. If there is something that stumps him, game one. When doctors well telling us our youngest just bruised her foot, he know something else was wrong. He wouldn't quit until they figured it out, calling ...See More
Does anybody have Kaiser and would recommend a good general doctor for me? I have a pediatrician in mind but would love more suggestions if anyone has any.
