I like this, Whit Coppedge--thanks! Question: it appears to exclude renovating a single-family home--- A. When Is a Lien Agent Required? Beginning April 1, 2013, project owners must designate lien agents for all private projects where the total cost of improvements is $30,000 or more, excluding improvements to existing family residences. The lien agent must be a title insurance company or title insurance agency chosen from a list of registered lien agents maintained by the Department of Insurance. - See more at: http://www.spilmanlaw.com/Resources/Attorney-Authored-Articles/Construction/New-N-C--Lien-Laws-Take-Effect-Next-Week--Is-Your#sthash.ep34LG2 n.dpuf
Whit C. replied:
I can't say for sure - here's something from ncbar.org that says the lien agent is excluded from single-family home projects if it's a current residence. But I'm obviously not legal counsel. That reminds me that I need to ask for my lien waiver.
