I recently needed a chimney expert I could trust to look into some damage and leaks that had been stemming from an area somewhere above my fireplace (which was causing rust on my fireplace and water in my basement) and to make repairs to the chimney where needed. (I already had a company lined up to do the outside work involving OSB, flashing and siding; that company had told me to find a chimney expert to investigate inside and for any work related to the chimney itself.)
Tim was recommended to me by someone behind the counter at my local lumber/hardware store--someone I trusted. Tim came to my house, went down the basement, looked at the fireplace, went up on the roof and took the chimney cover off, and so on. He reported that although he had hoped to be able to do some repair work for me, there was nothing to repair on the inside--the water damage was very limited except for one wall, and all the work could be done by the siding contractor.
Now I know nothing about chimneys---he could have told me anything, but fortunately for my pocketbook, he told me the truth. He also only charged me a minimal service call charge for his time.
If I ever do have a need for extensive chimney work, this is the person I will call. I will also be calling him for my routine chimney cleaning needs from now on. Thanks again, Tim - we're lucky to have you in NW Indiana.
