  Try get as far away from urban life as possible. Its always great to have something to add to the composition, like a tree or a rock formation, I find the Cederberg area to be best for that. Make a weekend of it and camp at Kromrivier or something. Heaps of areas there for great star trails and rock formations:-) A bit of a drive, but whats 260 km for a great shot?
