I took it to autozone to have them run the codes and such, but I want to have it looked at by a mechanic. Does anyone know of a place that isn't going to charge a huge amount just to tell me what is going on with it?

  Code readers are less than $100 - check online and see if your car model is supported, and if you can reset codes before buying. Then you have your own reader/updater to diagnose your own issues.
