About us

The Traffic Jam Nights have been going since May 2013 and have quickly gained a reputation as top nights with great music. Featuring quality bands and solo artists from near and afar on both themed events and eclectic mash-ups!

SO HERE'S HOW THE NIGHTS WORK:

The Traffic Jam Nights are run every Thursday and are FREE events.

We usually open with a couple of acoustic sets and put a couple of bands on later. The first jam is usually around 9:20 and the last jam (starting around midnight) carries on until the pub closes (which could be 1 or 2 in the morning).

We're open to any styles, genres and instruments, so bring your guitars, basses, tambourines, djembes, harmonicas, trumpets, saxophones, didgeridoos, kaossilators, drumsticks, voices, or whatever else you can think of, and get ready for another awesome jam.

We only have 3 rules in regard to the jam sessions:

1. Listen to the other musicians and work towards the good of the music; not your own ego. Music's all about give and take and direction only comes through unity. Make sure you play some nice backup as well as take the solo when it comes round to you, and leave plenty of space for other musicians to do their thing. Try to get a riff or melody going which you can all latch onto, and make sure you protect the groove. ;)

2. Don't try and play covers or your own songs. If lyrics can fit over a certain jam, feel free to sing them, but otherwise people won't know where you're going and it can just end up in chaos. Jams are about freedom and improvisation, as well as sensitivity, and trying to force a particular chord sequence on everyone else can ruin that side of things.

3. Keep it interesting. Try not to play the same riff all the way through. Break it up through the song and return to the theme. Do what you like - it's a jam, but bear in mind that the audience probably won't want to listen to 10 minutes of the same riff and/or chord progression. At least use some dynamics. ;)

We're always up for booking new acts in, so if... show more
you're interested, please get in touch with Nathan and hopefully we can get you a slot. ;) As well as Nathan promoting the events, we also have Maurizio, a separate sound engineer, making sure everything sounds right and that the acts are happy. Plenty of bands have commented on the sound and how smoothly things have run during their performances.
