What is your favorite button maker? What is the best button size/what sells best?   I got my button makers from Dr. Don's (http://buttonsonline.com) and get my parts from http://usabuttons.com. I make both 2 1/4" and 1 1/2" buttons and both seem to sell equally well. In my experience the design on the button rather than the size seems to determine sellability. I do text rather than art, though. If you're doing art buttons, I usually see the smaller sizes in AA. The better button machines may be more expensive than the cheap models, but they are worth it and they pay for themselves after a few cons. The Tecre-style machines I got from Dr. Don's are simple enough that a friend's daughters learned to use them at 6 and 8 years of age.
