About us
FGP Jazz Series was created by internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist, bandleader and music events producer, Erin McDougald (sole owner of Flapper Girl Productions since 1999). The purpose of the series is to present emerging and globally recognized jazz artists and innovators inside a recording studio environment for small, live audiences to be part of the performance through responding to the music as it is spontaneously created and captured on audio and video documentation. It allows the music lover to see the inside-process and atmosphere of professional, sometimes famous, recording studios, while, simultaneously, providing the artists performing the "energy" of a live, enthusiastic jazz-appreciating audience to enhance the music in a sonically controlled environment. Just as artists (or the ever extinguishing "record labels") pay a studio and producer to record albums, the audience, by paying admission, becomes part of the recording and each audience member in turn will be named in any and all published albums/tracks/liner notes resulting from the evening's event.
The goal and purpose of this series is a three-part elixir of good will:
1. To cater to audiences seeking affordable, elite musical experiences
2. To unveil the plethora of greater and lesser known risk-takers in jazz in a space where they are free to expound upon their artistic ambitions without restrictions that often come with playing restaurant gigs or even concert halls.
3. To promote the Chicago-based recording studios that are interested and aligned with making quality, unique music for true music lovers, instead of the commercial-prone masses.
WHEN DOES FGP JAZZ SERIES TAKE PLACE?
The series has been revamped but still takes place once or twice each month, always on a weekend, always in a professional, Chicago Recording Studio with trained engineers on site. Refreshments (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are complimentary throughout the evening, and most typically, after the scheduled... show more performer records, the room opens up to a "jam session" scene, for professional and students of jazz to improvise with one another. While the scheduled performances, beginning always at 10pm, are typically one set spanning 45 to 90 minutes, the jam sessions tend to go into the wee hours of morning (no later than 4am). Doors open at 8:30 on nights of the Jazz Series.

Reservations are required to be admitted, and can be secured only through emailing FGP Jazz Series at: FGPJazzSeries@gmail.com --The Subject line should read "RSVP for-(date) performance" and the reservation must include your first and last name and full names of any guests you wish to bring.
