  Hi everyone, this is my first post here and it’s not the brightest. Does anybody know any lawyers specializing in music businesses? Mainly dealing with private studios/schools? We’re having a situation in which the previous owner of our business (unnamed) screwed us over financially and more stuff is coming to light and we as a staff want to see what legal action we can take to save it or at the least have our concerns answered.   and there is Alex Austin, who you know and who handles artists and there is bay area lawyers for the arts. http://www.calawyersforthearts.org/ Alex doesn't handle personal injury but may have a referral, since you are an artist and will have a difficult time proving your loss of income. who may be able to give you some free advice

You qualify for their lawyer referral program, and they can set you up with either some quick advice or a dedicated attorney (doesn't matter what for). 888-775-8995. They can help you out. If they ask how you found out about it, tell them Sam (who used to intern in the LA office) recommended it.

  For arts lawyers, I've had a number of different experiences that relate more specifically to art exhibitions and artist loan agreements. I've seen so-so contracts from CA Lawyers for the Arts based in the Presidio: http://www.calawyersforthearts.org/ The best contracts I've seen were done by Morrison Foerster (MoFo), but they might be a bit pricey. Either way, it's good to get some estimates from a number of different firms... Good luck

  look into california lawyers for the arts... they are a non-profit and are excellent. they arranged mediation and got the money i was owed by oakland ballet years ago. it's a good place to start!
