I use a Canon pixma pro 100 (normally there are decent rebates on bhphoto.com) and I print on Red River Paper. I prefer matte paper and they have a great heavyweight one!

DSLR's are an investment, but they're an awesome investment especially if you have kids and are willing to learn how to operate one. To be honest, if all you're looking at doing is wanting to take action pics, some of the advanced point and shoot cameras have many more options now -- like the ability to change the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture--all of what you will need to take accurate action shots.
