Recently I decided to take matters into my own hands and find a psychiatrist for myself, reason being my mental state and pushing from friends and some family, though I didn't want to admit I needed it. I don't want to specify my age but can say I am between 16-18, so I would like to find someone who works well with adolescent patients. After searching through the internet for several days I have realised it's hard to know what to expect from a service or individual, so I would love to hear from your firsthand experience or people close to you. I am located in Auckland and am searching preferably in central Auckland. I'm sure there are many others searching and it would be useful for them too, so If you know of a good psychiatrist you could recommend please let me know. Thank you kind people of Auckland

  Hiya! Just wondering if it's a psychiatrist you're after? People often confuse different types of mental health practitioners. There is a good site [here](http://www.lucidpsychotherapy.co.nz/choosing-a-mental-health-practitioner.html) that explains the differences between a psychologist, psychiatrist, psychotherapist, counsellor etc. As far as I'm aware it's pretty difficult to refer yourself to a psychiatrist. If you're after someone to talk to [Talking Works](https://www.talkingworks.co.nz) has lists of counsellors, psychologists and psychotherapists by area :)

I have tried having a look for her, but honestly have no idea where to start. Anyone have any good suggestions, or know of a good way to find one?   I'd recommend taking a look at [Talking Works](https://www.talkingworks.co.nz/). It has info on counsellors, psychologists and psychotherapists working in different areas around NZ and includes a little description on each about their approach, specialisations, costs etc.

  Last time I used talkingworks.co.nz I noticed there were some counsellors who offered Skype sessions. I don't have experience with any so can't recommend, and the site is ordered geographically so may be a little difficult to navigate. But it may be somewhere to start looking.... Good luck with your search.
