  I have not had good luck with contractors in the past. Actually I've only had terrible experiences. I come from states that require contractors to be licensed and bonded, but I have found out that is not the case here in TX. How do I find and trust good contractors for some up coming projects? What are the steps you would take to make sure you are getting a good contractor? I thought I had done my homework before, but after several have taken my deposit and run, or leave the job all broken and damaged, I am disheartened. And I have a big kitchen remodel coming up. Any offers of help as in what I might be missing in my process would be greatly appreciated.

  Reputation and reference is key. Ask around, look at work past...See if their accredited through the BBB. Ask for proof of insurance. All great ways to ensure a contractor is legit.
