About us

Angel Gowns Florida seeks to honor Jesus, the Giver of Life, by providing newborn bereavement gowns made from donated wedding gowns at no cost to grieving families.
We are a Christian ministry and we believe the use of the lovely fabrics of wedding gowns also honors those babies who die in hospitals. The gowns were worn by brides in holy matrimony with their husbands, a joining of a man and a woman before God. Both the original wedding gowns and the re-imagined Angel Gowns share the same sacred feeling of sacred events.
These beautiful, tiny gowns are not for sale, but are free gifts to families during times of unimaginable loss of their newborn babies. Boy and girl gowns are provided so the nursing staff can dress babies for pictures, final goodbyes and burial.
Our Angel Gowns are made from the special fabrics and embellishments of clean, donated, adult size wedding gowns. They are made in three sizes that all open in the back and tie with ribbons for easy dressing. Micro preemie, flannel lined Angel Wraps are also made to accommodate the tiniest babies who are too delicate to dress in gowns. These wraps are backed with a piece of wedding gown fabric.
If you donate a gown, a picture will be taken of the first baby gown made from your gown and it will be emailed or texted to you just prior to being posted on our Facebook page. During that contact, you may provide other information about your wedding. The time frame between donation and receiving a picture is typically three to six months.
Gowns may also be given anonymously if you prefer. Please write a note telling us about that preference and include it with your gown. In those cases, we will happily use the fabric, but will not contact you nor post a picture.
After the first Angel Gown is completed, remaining fabrics from your gown will be shared with our team of creative seamstresses who will sew as many tiny pieces as possible. Because this fabric is shared, it is not possible for... show more
us to send additional pictures to donors.
These volunteer seamstresses, lovingly called The Cavalry, return the finished baby pieces to "headquarters." They are then sent out to hospitals we have contacted and are stored in Labor & Delivery and/or Newborn Intensive Care Units until needed. If you work in a hospital or know of one you would like us to contact, please let us know. We will be pleased to assess their interest and needs. There is also no charge to hospitals who receive our bereavement gowns.
We are not able to take special orders, accept bridesmaid or flower girl dresses nor return Angel Gowns to the donor. Some donors elect to cut off a piece of their gown as a keepsake before donating.
Please carefully evaluate the condition of your gown's fabric if it is over 15 years old as stored fabrics are often stiff and stained. We are unable to use any materials that are not as pristine as every bride expects to wear on her special day.
If you do not have a gown to donate but wish to support us, we gratefully accept Hobby Lobby or JoAnn gift cards for our associated sewing needs. We do not accept cash donations.
We are not a 501(c)3 charity and cannot offer a tax deduction form.
Wedding gowns can be picked up locally in the Jacksonville or St Augustine Florida areas. If you live outside these areas, packing suggestions and a shipping address are provided below. This shipping charge is the donor's only expense.
Shipping suggestions:
1. Remove the dress from all storage or preservation bags, boxes and hangers
2. Cut out all crinoline/tulle (poofy stuff) but not the dress lining
3. Wedding gowns must be clean, not spotless. Newer gowns can be easily washed: pre-treat all stains and hemline, turn inside out, use cool water on a delicate cycle, hang to dry
4. Fold gown in half or thirds and roll up like a sleeping bag
5. Place in plastic before boxing into the smallest shipping material possible
6. Put a note inside the box with your name, cell number and email address. It is very important to have this donor information for the follow-up text or email picture.

Please private message me if you have any additional questions. Thank you for considering making a donation of the special gown from your wedding day.
