About us

Mission statement: To teach anyone, especially children, simple woodworking skills that may one day improve their life or the life of someone else. If I can teach one person to build a toy or a chair, ~mission accomplished.

The "Wandering Woodshop" program is sponsored by 3Boys Yard Toys and takes the Woodshop on the road to just about anyone, anywhere, however mainly concentrating on schools that may not have funding for in house wood shop programs.

This program teaches valuable life skills using simple tools and wood pieces to create toys and gradually learn to build chairs.

Funding for the program comes from sponsors within the community who provide equipment and supplies in exchange for promoting their own business. Signage and logos on the Wandering Woodshop vehicle or trailer. Business cards and flyers may be placed inside the kits. Wood brands on the kits. Special incentives for participants in the program.

How does the program work?

Step 1: 3-5 years old boys and girls build a toolbox. The box is a kit pre-made by hand by 3Boys Yard Toys. Included in the kit are a child size hammer, screw drivers (flat & phillips), safety goggles, piece of sand paper, a ruler and pencil. This kit teaches use of a hammer and nails as well as sanding and finishing. When they are finished they will have a wooden toolbox that will last a lifetime and skills with the same longevity. They will use this toolbox to move onto the next project.

Step 2: 6-10 years old boys and girls use the tools and safety equipment from their box to create a toy car. The kit is pre-made by 3Boys Yard Toys and includes all pieces. This kit teaches use of a hammer and nails and using a screwdriver and ruler. When they are finished they will have a toy car and skills that will also last for a life-time. The toy car is the signature hang toy for the third and final project, the cedar plank deck chair.

Step 3: 11 years old and up boys and girls use their hand tools as well as learn how to use more advanced... show more
power tools and how to practice safety while using them. With these tools they create a chair either kid size or adult size. The chair kits are pre-cut and assembled by 3Boys Yard Toys. Each person or group may finish or decorate the chair in any way they like. The chairs are then kept, sold, or donated by the sponsor. Each chair has its own social profile and is named by the builder and/or sponsor. The hang toy is added to the chair and comes to life for a lifetime of enjoyment.
