Dr Jodie Low Choy BVSc BVMS IVAS Certified is a long time Darwin resident and practicing veterinarian since 1991 with a special interest in wildlife since 1995.Jodie developed a keen interest in acupuncture and achieved IVAS (International Veterinary Acupuncture Society) certification in 2011.
Jodie has just recently started her own business Vet 2 Pet Mobile Veterinary Services which is a mobile service available on weekdays and occasionally weekends providing friendly veterinary care for dogs, cats, birds and reptiles as well as veterinary acupuncture for all creatures and canine rehabilitation.

Acupuncture is the insertion and manipulation of fine sterile needles into specific points on the body for therapeutic effect. It is a Chinese medical technique based on the principles of Yin and Yang which has been practiced and developed for over 3000 years in humans and animals.
Acupuncture aims to restore health by maintaining harmony between Yin and Yang. This is achieved by stimulation at acupuncture points to influence the flow of Qi (life force) through the body along meridians (channels) which communicate with internal organs and tissues. Acupuncture works well when used alone or in combination with other treatments.
Scientific research has demonstrated that it can provide great relief from pain and clinical disease. Veterinary acupuncture is drug free. Virtually any injury or illness will benefit especially arthritis, lameness, spinal disease and muscular pain. Other commonly treated conditions include diseases of the gastrointestinal, cardiac, respiratory, reproductive, urinary, nervous, skin and immune systems as well as behavioral concerns.
Sessions will take about 30-60 minutes. Needles can stay in for about 10-20 minutes. In general needles are well tolerated and animals usually relax during the session. Some will even go to sleep. Sessions can be every 1-2 weeks initially. Occasionally electro-acupuncture or trigger point therapy may be administered.

expect 1 of 3 responses to therapy
1. Some animals will improve rapidly after a treatment
2. Others may get a little worse for a day or so before improving
3. Others will improve slowly and require a number of treatments before any improvement is noticed.
As the patient responds, treatments may not be as frequent.
Many conditions can resolve completely and even chronic conditions may only require one or two treatments a year. The number of treatments required varies with the patient and the issues of concern. show more
