My father claims Giddy's has the best eggplant parmigiana he's ever had). About 10-15 minutes north of Highland Park in Metuchen, there is The Orchid, which is a meat restaurant that has various Israeli types of dishes, burgers, wraps, deli, and more. While not fancy, it's a bit more upscale that Park Place, and has a much broader menu. Within each style of cuisine I mentioned, Highland Park really only has one restaurant, so it really depends on what kind of cuisine you are seeking.
