About us
I have been a marriage officer since 1999 and with hundreds of weddings under my belt.
I am as passionate about weddings as ever. Each wedding is personal to me
and I make it special and meaningful. I have performed weddings all over
and in some amazing places, from themed weddings to the most traditional
weddings.
I am still waiting to be asked to jump out of a plane and marry a
couple while we free fall to our ...... I might have to be sick that day!
As a marriage officer it is my responsibility to perform the legal
requirements to facilitate the couple to enter a legally binding marriage.
This however is not a business transaction however it is a very special
moment in the lives of a couple and I am there to help celebrate their
marriage. I tell each couple that it is their wedding and therefore I take
direction from them as to what they are wanting in their wedding ceremony.
So for this to happen I will meet with the couple in my office at least once
prior to the wedding date, so that we can discuss the wedding details and I
will get the info I need as well as the documentation I require.
Because the wedding day is the couples, I would ask them to give input as to
what they want. They can decide if they want a Christian based service or a
non-religious service. They can give ideas as to readings or hymns or
whatever else is good for them. I would normally speak about 3 things at
the wedding. Love, I celebrate the couples love for each other, but without
telling the couple what they already feel. I want the couple to be immersed
in the emotion of their own love. I also focus on the friendship the couple
has. It is important to celebrate the friendship and to remind the couple
to keep the friendship alive. The last thing I focus on is the story of the
couple, not the detail of the story but rather the concept of their story.
I build a framework that the couple has the chance to peg their own thoughts
and memories to while I am talking. It is also important that the... show more guests
are included into the service and this approach allows the guests to think
of their own love, friendship and story with their own respective wife,
husband or partner.
I would also make myself available again for a second meeting if the wedding
is planned long after the initial meeting. When it comes to the service my
approach is very much to make it a fun happy occasion that is special and
memorable. I perform a 30 min service that is interactive, I speak with my
couple and not to my couple. They can choose their own vows from the
options I provide or they can write their own unique vows.
After the wedding service is done I would stay for a while at the wedding
venue and then excuse myself. I would then take all the documentation and
the information with the register to Home Affairs and hand that in for
capturing onto the system. This process of capturing normally takes about a
month. Once the couple have signed the register on the wedding day they
receive a marriage certificate and they are legally married.
I do not sit in judgement of my couples and I do not expect them to live up
to any standards I might put in place. Each couple is individual and I
treat all couples with the respect they deserve. I have made it my goal
that I do not want to be a service provider to a couple on their wedding day
but rather a friend that is there to celebrate with them.
I am very accommodating and I want every couple to be overjoyed by their
wedding ceremony and the memories that it produces.
