PLEASE bear with me--this is about 2 stores: 1) I searched the list of comments here to learn the name of the fabulous Jewish Deli & Restaurant (it was NOT a "meat market"--sheesh) on 5th Ave. closer to downtown but further away from Soho but could NOT find it. As everyone my age should know, it was commonly referred to as "JewTown" (I turned 70 on 4/21.) I remember it from 1950 thru the late 60's 'cause my folks bought a lb. or so of sliced corned beef & pastrami there every few weeks; 2) my Mom used to buy our deli rye bread, among other goodies, at Rhea's Bakery on 5th Ave., several blocks close to the Jewish Deli. My research on both stores did NOT mention the Deli at all, & ONLY mentioned Rhea's (& Mayflower) Bakery smack downtown, opened in 1925 near Market Square. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THE LITTLE RHEA'S BAKERY IN JEWTOWN DURING THE 1950's? DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE JEWISH DELI? Thank you all very much...! :)
