I really had high hopes for this place. I was referred by my massage therapist and my family doctor spoke highly of Vitality as well. I have suffered with sciatica-like symptoms for over 2 years on my right side. I have seen 2 orthopedic doctors, had an injection, did some PT (covid shut that down), and also massage therapy. The problem was intermittent for the longest time but has now flared up and I am in chronic pain. I wanted to give chiropractic treatment a chance even though I have never been to a chiropractor in my life and was reluctant. I researched 3 places before choosing Vitality. Dr. Sherri did my initial evaluation. She spent a lot of time with me, taking a detailed history and then x-rays were done. During the second appointment she went over the results of my imaging studies and recommended a 6 month treatment plan which was going to cost me over $3,000 (not covered by my insurance). She advised paying up front would get me a discount. I told her I could not commit to 6 months due to finances and that I needed to discuss with my husband. She asked me if I wanted to call him right at that moment. I told her no but that I would commit to 2 months. I paid up front for a month and they would charge my credit card on the 15th of the following month. I also had an adjustment that same day. First red flag: I felt really pressured to make a decision right then and there regarding treatment. It truly felt like Dr. Sherri was giving me a scripted sales pitch. Nevertheless, I scheduled several appointments (poor judgment on my part). I wanted to give it a fair chance. Once I got home and looked at my calendar, I realized that several of the appointments conflicted with other appointments I had. I called Vitality to cancel those appts, and the receptionist wanted to reschedule. I had a nagging feeling and just did not want to reschedule those canceled appts. She advised me to talk with Dr. Sherri when I went for my adjustment the next day. When I went in, Dr. Sherri scolded me for not wanting to follow her treatment plan. I told her I really didn’t feel comfortable paying for all these appointments when I didn’t even know if treatment would work. She told me that I was making excuses and insinuated that I didn’t want to get better (2nd red flag). We talked for quite some time before she finally did an adjustment. After that second adjustment I started having really bad pain on my left side (same as on the right). I was really scared and concerned because I have never had pain on my left side. When I told her about it she said not to be concerned. She said I have been overcompensating on that side for over 2 years and that it didn’t surprise her that I felt pain. It wasn't the caring response you would expect from a provider (3rd red flag). I went for 2 more adjustments (had 4 total) and felt no benefit at all. I finally went to my family doctor to get a steroid pack and discuss the situation with her. She thought I would benefit from physical therapy with dry needling. I made the decision after talking with her (she has been my family doc for 6 years and I trust her) not to continue with chiropractic treatment. I called Vitality to cancel all appointments and told them they were not to charge anything else to my credit card and they did not want to release me from care until I spoke with Dr. Sherri. The receptionist kept saying, “so you don’t want to follow Dr. Sherri’s treatment plan.” It was a conversation that should have lasted less than 5 minutes but went on and on because the receptionist simply would not cancel my appointments until I got pretty stern with her. It even felt like everything she was saying to me was scripted. I felt like I was being held hostage by this practice. It is like the staff are trained specifically what to say and how to say it in order to not lose business. It just felt wrong. I went in the next day to speak with Dr. Sherri face to face. I felt like I owed her that. I told her that my doctor recommended PT and she asked me where my doctor got her chiropractic degree from (very inappropriate and unprofessional). I said she doesn’t have one, but she is a physician (she’s a D.O.) and I trust her. You have not established my trust. She gave me my imaging studies and gave me a partial refund and off I went. She made it very personal and she was condescending. She did not establish trust with me and I am worse off now than before I went in there. I now have to deal with this pain that I have on my left side as well as the ongoing issue with my right side. It was a very frustrating experience and I’m glad I stopped it before it went any further. Maybe she has helped a lot of people but not me. I will go through physical therapy now and hopefully the problem will resolve with time. I just felt like money was more important to Dr. Sherri than patient care. I never want to feel that way again with any provider. The bottom line: pay attention to your gut instinct and don’t let any provider ever bully you or make you feel guilty about a decision you make for your own healthcare. Be your own advocate. One more thing to note: it was suggested to me that this practice might pay to have negative reviews “scrubbed.” It will be interesting to see what happens with my review. I was as honest and objective as I could possibly be. I feel strongly that I owe it to the public to tell my story exactly as it happened.
