  Tufts Dental has a Pediatric/Special Needs at Northwoods Medical Center in Taunton 508-823-7323. Don't go to Prime Dental - we went and all the fillings keep falling out, we tried Family Dental in Wareham but they don't specialize in kids, now have an appointment at Tufts Pedi unit in Boston.

  Question: We need to have dentistry done on my 10 year old son. It would have to be done sedated, as there is probably no way we could hold him down or restrain him in the chair. We had wanted it done at Children's, but there was a snafu with the anesthesiologist, over a 7 year old EEG that showed a tiny anomaly. At the time of the EEG, the neurologist said it was nothing to worry about. Now, they want to sedate him for an MRI, just to see if they can sedate him for the dentistry. First, thoughts on this? Second, has anyone gotten similar sedation dentistry for their child, and if so where? We are so confused about this. If worse comes to worse, we will hold him in the chair and do one tooth at a time (he needs 4 pulled), but that seems like a bad last resort. Thanks for listening... Ronnie

The Tufts Dental Facilities Serving Persons with Special Needs Since 1976, The Tufts Dental Facilities (TDF) have provided comprehensive oral health care to developmentally disabled individuals in Massachusetts. The result of a contractual partnership between the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and the state's Department of Developmental Services, the nationally recognized program - the largest of its kind - serves more than 9,000 patients at eight clinics throughout the state. The program also maintains arrangements with four hospitals to address the needs of patients who require IV sedation or general anesthesia for treatment. Focused on the dental health needs of individuals with disabilities such as mental retardation, autism, blindness and Down syndrome, Tufts Dental Facilities depend on the support of university, community, government, hospital and private health care resources to fill an important health care gap for this population. TDF Special Needs Community Dental Health Program Serving 5,000 patients annually in nearly 200 locations, the TDF Special Needs Community Dental Health Program delivers on-site dental health services to high-risk populations in schools, Head Start programs, adult day activity centers, sheltered workshops and community residences. Nine dental hygienists travel throughout the state with portable dental equipment, providing oral health education, screening, dental cleaning, dental sealants and fluoride application to Head Start students, students with special needs and other individuals. Hygienists also make referrals to local dentists and offer ongoing case management services, providing a critical continuum of care that extends beyond twice-yearly cleanings.
