  When I came out for my job interview/just started I stayed at [Hostelling International](/http://www.hiwashingtondc.org/) and [Gallery Inn](/http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Gallery-Inn-Hotel/Washington-DC/21986) I liked Gallery Inn more. HI had the big, packed, full of travelers feel, while Gallery Inn felt like a hotel with more beds in the room. It's near Dupont Circle.
