Artist Statement:
Kathryn Reynolds is an accomplished commercial and fine art photographer. She was named National Photography Association‘ Advertising Photographer of the Year’ for 2004. In addition, Reynolds has won numerous awards for her personal photographs as well.
Reynolds work uses symbols, often in juxtaposition, to explore beauty, archetypes, paradox, the cycles of life, death, and re-birth. She believes we are on a journey to discover who we are, our deep roots, and what destiny holds for us. Her personal quest for self-exploration, and a deeper understanding of the human condition, is a driving force in her ethereal work.

Reynolds has a rich background in English literature, and religious studies, as well as being a published poet. She is also a master of the craft of photography, and this has allowed her to execute complicated tableaux filled with symbolic imagery. Critics have said, Reynolds work echoes the poetics of William Blake and Emily Dickinson.

Reynolds also does her own styling and production something quite unusual for a photographer. She says, “Styling is a big part of the photo- I am concerned with the whole photograph, the entire vision, not just the lighting and the camera. I like to have the finished idea in my head before I even start. Styling allows me that control over the finished product. Everything in my art is very intentional there is a lot of thought that goes into every one of my images.”

Kathryn Reynolds is a Winston Salem native and is the daughter of Dorothy Reynolds and the late Zachary Reynolds, grandson of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company founder, R.J. Reynolds. ‘Zach’ Reynolds. Kathryn’s’ father was tragically killed in a private plane crash when Kathryn was a child.

In the series of Documentary self-portraits, entitled, ‘Zachary Reynolds the father I never knew’, she explores the ‘spirit’ and ‘legacy’ of her father.... show more
