That being said, I sold my Trek Excalibur a few years ago because I lived in an area where cycling was nearly impossible, now that I'm in an area that's more bike friendly, I really want to get back into it. I loved my Excalibur, but got serious sticker shock when I priced a new one, so now I'm looking at ordering parts and building from scratch. I have no doubt that I am mechanically capable, but it's been so long since I've messed with bicycles that I don't even know what's current anymore. Has anyone had experience doing this? And does anyone have recommendations on shops/brands/parts? Or am I just going to end up spending more money building something than if I just bite the bullet and buy one? Thanks

  I would check out bikesdirect.com and bikeisland.com I bought 2 road bikes from there and have no complaints. Do your research on why the websites are so cheap while you're at it also, I'd like to see more satisfied customers like myself and GF riding the BD brand bikes around.
