So, I've been looking into horse insurance for my lovely 10 year-old OTTB gelding. I recently started working at an emergency equine hospital as a tech and the more I see, the more I'm noticing how quickly everything can go downhill. This horse is my heart horse, my best friend, and should anything happen to him that is surgically correctable, I would ASOLUTELY take that option so long as I thought it was the right decision for him. I have the ASPCA colic and accident insurance, but after doing some research, I'm realizing that people are not thrilled with how their claims have been handled and there are next to no reviews from the horse side of things. Because of this, I'm looking into other companies, requesting quotes, etc etc. Anyway, everywhere I look, I'm getting "mortality insurance quick quote" and what I'm really looking for is major medical expenses. So, I have to questions:
Does anyone have a company that they know has served them well in the past and they really recommend (maybe not a super expensive one.)
Does anyone know of a company that just does major medical and not mortality? They're asking me to assign a value that I would like to receive on and animal who's value has no monetary equivalent.
