    Horrible experience with this company...only moved half my belongings. Said they don't move farm equipment after walking thru and saying they would move everything...since when are wheelbarrows, rakes, and a lawn mower farm equipment?? Now they are saying they don't do long distance moves anymore...not what the website says....Dustin is a smooth talker...beware!! Had to hire another company to move the rest of my things..took Hug Family Movers to small claims court...they will be covering the cost of the other moving company...thank you Bandstra!!!

    Recently, we were unfortunate enough to hire Hug Family Movers to move our furniture and household effects. We hired them to move the items into a Big Steel Box on August 14 and then to move them from the Big Steel Box to our new household on September 16th. When Dustin and his helper arrived at the house on the morning of the first move we were informed that they needed to go to another site however a second moving crew would then take over. The second crew was rude and very careless when it came to handling our goods. As a result two items of furniture were damaged ( our TV stand has a big foot print in it where someone actually stood on it which resulted in the corners being broken and our chest of drawers was also kicked in which caused the sides to detach). Additionally two teak book cases which formed a wall unit are missing. When we tried to discuss this with Dustin and Nicole, they indicated twice that he would come to the house to assess the damage which he has yet to do. He has also promised numerous times to call us back in order to discuss a remedy which again he has not done. When I asked him if he had insurance, Dustin stated that he had and asked us to contact various furniture outlets to find replacements, put them on hold and then let him know so that his company could pay for the items and deliver them. Of course this has not happened. Most of our conversations have been by email as it is very difficult to phone and have someone actually answer the call. They may be very courteous in their verbal interactions with you however if you have a customer service complaint their customer service disappears

    July, 2015 We were left with a traumatic experience after dealing with this company. He took our VISA and charged us full before the move. We understand now that this is not industry practice. Be careful here as you will have no recourse when payment has been taken before the move. Although the initial movement of half our belongings was quite satisfactory and his team moved these items professionally, we spent three weeks attempting to communicate with the owner after not receiving all of our things when he underestimated the volume of our move. Instead of providing an additional trailer, as in our contract, he promised a back haul in 3 to 5 days. When this did not occur, the owner refused to talk to us over the phone. He would only text at his convenience. He often responded to us with promises that were not met. It often seemed that he would make up information to prolong our situation. After two weeks of attempting to negotiate with him we began posting negative reviews. He immediately began responding. We still could not get our things even when he suggested, and we agreed, to pay the additional cost of his gas to bring our second load. After three weeks, we hired a second moving company to transport our things. The move was extremely frustrating and ultimately more costly for us. Be warned. Before hiring Hug Family Movers, we had found a few warnings of this behaviour on Google reviews, but he was able to explain them away as anomalies. Hopefully, you now have more information so you can be even more diligent when you are selecting your mover.
