  I'm a nationally certified positive reinforcement dog trainer. You should find a trainer certified either through the APDT or Positively to ensure they're a professional. I can help you find a trainer in your area if you need help. You should get them into a puppy kindergarten, not only for education for YOU about body language and positive communication (and great tips for Alex), but most importantly as a source of socialization for the puppy -- the period from 8-12 weeks is the most active of their development, so you want to expose them to as much as possible by that time period and have them around other dogs to learn communication with animals (stress signals, etc). Do NOT do anything recommended by Cesar Millan (the "Dog Whisperer") or anyone who uses force ("compulsion training" or the old garbage about dominance and needing to be alpha, etc -- that's scientifically proven to be very damaging behaviorally.).
