  Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself.... My name is Kate, I am Type 1 diabetic. I was diagnosed in 2001, at age 22, during my last semester of college. My husband and I just moved to L.A. We are somewhat social people and would be up for meeting others for coffee or happy hour etc. It is always nice to have fellow Type 1 friends to socialize with... As I am new here, I am looking for recommendations for a great endocrinologist as well as peoples experiences with Covered California. Has anyone found a plan that helps with the cost of insulin? Any opinions on the best plan for diabetics in California? Also, I live in the Valencia area, so an endocrinologist nearby would obviously be ideal, though not absolutely necessary. Thoughts and advice?

  Welcome to LA! The USC Westside Center for Diabetes is the best place ever, but it's in Beverly Hills. If you want to meet more T1Ds, the JDRF LA's Young Leadership Committee is having a fundraiser mixer on February 7 th in Santa Monica. There will be tons of T1Ds.   Just wondering if there is a possibility to get a rep from JDRF to attend a 504 Plan meeting for my daughter? We have had a 504 for 6 years. She is in HS. We had a 504 in place, but school principal changed her 504 without our consent or knowledge. We had included all the necessary accomodations for the CASHEE, SAT, STAR TESTING, all required Standardized testing and they took this out of her 504 plan. Our daughter was denied any accomodations because they changed the plan. Is there a local rep that can come to a 504 meeting in Santa Maria. Our next step would be to go the the District Board Meeting before filing an OCR complaint. Please let me know if you have someone available. I have provided all Federal 504 Laws and the K.C. Settlement Laws put out but the CA Dept of Education, but the school still refuses to comply. Any suggestions?? Thank you.
