  Hey Sugar Hill/Buford/Suwanee peeps . . . anyone know a good dog trainer in the area who can teach an old dog new tricks. I have an 8 yr old (maybe 9 now) rescue Italian Greyhound who needs to be thoroughly house broke quick (yes, we were told she is house broke). I have had no luck and the house we are moving in to has light colored carpets. Not to mention, I am tired of trying to be sure I get all the "accidents" up and the carpet cleaned/deoderized in a timely manner.

  Well, I'm not going to win a popularity contest here. But here goes: DO NOT use the crate as a punishment just because she didn't go when you wanted her to. The crate is a safe haven, a dog's den. The first thing to do is completely get rid of any stains and odor in the house using Urine Off. You can find it online at urineoff.com, and some pet stores carry it. Even if you cleaned up the area in the house where she went, and you can't smell it ..... she likely still can, and she will go back there. This is the best product I have found. Then when you take her out to go .... give her a command: Go Pee Pee, Go Poo Poo! Make a HUGE deal when she does it!!!! Lots of praise. Eventually she will create her own "poop corner". Going in the same place regularly in the yard. IF you catch her in the act inside the house .... pull her away from it, say "NO" ... and then take her to her spot outside. Say go pee pee .. go poo poo. Since Tampa is a Therapy Dog, I have to be sure he can eliminate on command before I go inside for his visit. He will even lift his leg sometimes and nothing comes out;) Showing me he is trying, very cute. Be persistent .... lots of repetition. It will work. Good luck!
