“HOPEHIV (UK) is about the generation of hope, and Band Aid SA was founded in support of their and others amazing and selfless efforts toward improving the lives of those on our continent. My fellow band members, Band Aid SA collaborators and I absolutely believe that we can affect, shape and even change our world with music, having found inspiration and proof of this in the efforts of Bono (Co-Founder of the ONE Campaign), Bob Geldof (LiveAid & Live8) and Phil Wall of HOPEHIV to name a few.”

In the words of Phil himself - "Some people dream at night about changing the world. Others stay awake and do it."

The idea of Band Aid SA and 'Change Their Word with Music' is really a culmination of the many inspirational events and happenings that Sean Young has experienced throughout his life whilst working, living and travelling in SA, the UK and US; such as Live Aid, Live 8, Band Aid 20, The ONE Campaign and more recently the story he heard from Phil Wall (Founder of HOPEHIV) about his fellow QlikTech colleagues' amazing global support of and contribution to the HOPEHIV Foundation, whilst on conference in Miami.

These life changing and touching experiences have shaped his views, goals and ambitions and have been the long time driver behind his interest in making music, performing and connecting with people through song. These experiences have reinforced his absolute belief that you can affect, shape and even change the world with music.

We believe that Music is the universal Language of Love, Pain, Expression and Hope; and it is this common language that we know will unite us with fellow and like-minded musicians, artists and other contributors to create a positive mechanism for generating hope by creating awareness and raising funds in support of a very worthy cause, being those in need.

Sean believes that the genetic make-up of... show more
musicians gives them the inherent ability to empathize and truly understand; and he's banking on these characteristics to help drive this project and provide the necessary momentum to make Band Aid SA and our efforts a resounding success, growing them to epic proportions in the future.

The primary mechanism for achieving this will be in the form of music concerts, public performances and an informative and inspirational online and social media presence.

The Story Behind HOPEHIV:

HOPEHIV is about the generation of hope.

In 1997, Phil Wall visited a children’s home in Johannesburg. He met a little girl called Zodwa, whose mother was a sex worker dying of AIDS. Phil and his wife Wendy tried to adopt Zodwa but were prevented. Determined to do something, they decided to raise money instead. They realized they could help thousands of AIDS orphans: a kind of financial adoption.

They started giving out £10 notes, challenging people to turn them into £100. The 10/10 Challenge raised some £2m and led to the formation of HOPEHIV in 2000.

HOPEHIV’s work generates real hope through:

• Emotional and social support
• Education
• Economic empowerment
• Child rights

AT PRESENT, HOPEHIV IS HELPING SOME 50,000 VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH 40 PARTNER ORGANISATIONS IN 400 COMMUNITIES IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA.

100% of the profits from these efforts will go towards supporting the amazing work being done by the HOPEHIV Foundation and others.
