About us

The Shenandoah Academy of Dance was founded in 1999 by Missy Belcher Floyd. The Academy was created to offer classical ballet education for children and adults of all ages. Missy offers ballet training for beginning, intermediate and advanced levels including the study of pointe when the director deems the student ready. Classes are also held for toddlers, preschoolers and teen / adult students.
The Academy is prepared to teach the student who wishes to pursue a college major and / or a career in dance as well as the student who wishes to dance purely for the joy and love of dance. Classes also exist in jazz and contemporary dance at the Shenandoah Academy of Dance.
The Shenandoah Academy of Dance is also the official school and home of the Shenandoah Ballet, also founded by Floyd. The Shenandoah Ballet is well-known for its annual production of "The Nutcracker" and is the only ballet company in Rockbridge County dedicated to performing full-length productions of classical ballets!
