  #EXPERTQ&A Seeking information on my 2nd great grandmother,. Mary E Cuscaden, born 15 July 1826, Ireland, died 16 March 1890 Paducah, Kentucky. Married 1st ? Hancock (John?)-2 sons; Charles and John William Hancock. Married 2nd Joseph Parkin 14 August 1855 Paducah, Kentucky. 1 daughter, 1 son. Anna Ellen and Albert (my ggrandfather) Parkin , both born, lived and died in Paducah, Kentucky. Related somehow to Alex Cuscaden, a confectioner & ice cream maker in Louisville, Kentucky. No idea where in Ireland she is from, or exactly when and how she immigrated to the US. Any suggestions appreciated.

  Are there any marriage license history experts here? I am tracing the incredibly colorful life of my bohemian great grandmother, who supposedly married 3x that we know of, between 1905 and 1920. Marriage 1 took place in Michigan or Iowa in 1905 and ended by 1911. Marriage 2 took place in Chicago in 1913 and ended by 1917. Marriage 3 took place in Orange County, CA in 1920. I can only find ONE divorce record, for her last marriage, which was finalized in 1922. What records were required in those days to prove eligibility to marry? Could she have just rocked up at the courthouse and gotten married to her next man without actually having been divorced from the prior husband?

  I looked it up on Find A Grave. There are two memorials listed. The last burial was Nov. 1836. Windon Cemetery (it no longer exists) near Chase Mills on Mill Creek near Ripley, Jackson Co, WV. Checkout Family Search.org and Rootsweb, both free sites. Members on FB Ancestry group are helpful also.

  I am on Ancestry almost daily; it is costly, but has been well worth it. Now I, like Melissa Deutsch's 'crazy uncle', want to travel to all the places where my ancestors have lived and are buried. The Mormons also have another free site - family search.org.

  Katy_Road_Pink: Spelling names phonetically was very common. Either the resident did not read or write, so the census taker put down what he thought was correct, or they didn't read and write very well. You need to play with the spelling of both first and last names, and when you put the name in for a google search, don't check the "exact spelling" box. Some sites have boxes you can check if you want them to check for sounds like, phonetic, or exact. I have pretty good luck with family search.org, but the best I had was with Ancestry.com. They have a 14 day free trial going on now. You may want to try it. Good luck
