Omaha P. asked:Hi there! I’m 35 weeks and baby is presenting breech with a large abdomen. My Dr said it might be hard for him to flip to head down with his large abdomen. I've read a lot of people recommend going to a chiropractor to help align your spine to make delivery easier as well as flip a breech baby. I just started going today and he wants me to come in 3 times a week until baby comes. I'm 34 weeks, I'll be 35 on Thursday so not long to go. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this, if it was successful, how often you went, when you started going, etc, please tell me everything! TIA!!

I started at about 34 weeks, when we discovered it, and literally did everything -- exercises on spinningbabies.com, the chiro three times a week, massage, acupuncture. It was literally my part-time job to get this kid to move. I eventually got an ECV ... no dice. Turns out he was just stubborn, cause there was nothing in his way in my uterus or anything. Anyway -- totally try it, cause it's worth a shot. I found visiting the chiropractor to be kinda relaxing, honestly. I just started to get annoyed with the repeated $40 co-pay, grrrr.

They can also do acupuncture there to flip which I highly recommend! It was the most amazing experience I had. After that, check out spinningbabies.com they basically tell you positions to try to move baby around. My fav one (and the position that moved my son) was, i reclined our love seat and kicked out the feet and I laid upside down essentially and put ice pack on his head. Do this during babes active time of the day. Also, hands and knees. Pelvic rocks, scrubbing the floor, walk like an elephant (deep long swaying strides). Talk to babe and tell (s)he it's ok to flip down. Go to the pool and do flips. Relax as much as you can. I don't know where to start!Katrina K. replied:Also. It is helpful to labor in positions other than your back. When you labor on your back, gravity causes your pelvis to collapse more. Laboring upright or on hands and knees is good. (Squatting is good too, helps open the pelvis.) A chiropractor would be helpful too. Emma B. replied:Have a look at the spinning babies website. Avoid reclining or leaning back at all when sitting- sit leaning forward as much as you can. Try to lie on your left side when you're lying down.

My 2 nd baby seemed to be stuck in a posterior position from about 33 wks and ended up turning at 38 weeks after some gentle chiropractic work to release a tight section of my pelvis. Highly recommend Kathy Knight at Universal Chiro at Chifley Shops. She specialises in Mums and bubs.

She is planning a Homebirth, is very healthy has excellent midwife who's super supportive of her delivering breech if it came to that. Midwife tried external version today and was successful at getting baby to turn half way, but, she is looking to find a supportive OB who has delivered vaginal breech and if things didn't go well she'd be there if cesarean was needed. She will be seeing an acupuncturist tomorrow for moxibustion and or a chiro to try Webster technique! She is hoping that it is successful but if not we need recommendations to super supportive OB's. Osteopathy is wonderful and I recommend strongly but won't turn a posterior baby...

Keliann J. replied:I used a midwife for my second birth (VBAC) and suggest them to all my friends, but keep in mind that Midwives are bound to hospital policy, so be sure to pick a natural birth friendly hospital (they are not all as accommodating as one would think)...Also, I strongly suggest a doula to help you through it. I loved mine (Bonnie Miller) and would suggest her a million times. I'm not sure if she will go up that way but she is a GREAT resource for referrals. Also, Hypnobirthing is AMAZING!!! If nothing else read up on "ballon breathing". Peaceful Birthing in Rochester offers a 6 week course... Support, encouragement and back pressure/rubbing from the partner, doula and midwife are invaluable. This is a controversial issue but I think a mom with a baby in this position could benefit from a change of support teams (to at least give some of the team members a break). Also check out spinningbabies.com. but sometimes there is nothing that can be done but to continue and to birth a sunnyside up baby.

Michell Chard of http://www.advancedcarechiro.com/ works with lots and lots of pregnant women, uses the Webster Technique. Also check out spinningbabies.com to aid in fetal positioning.... Something I do ALOT of with my clients. Very, very important!!
Christina S. replied:If you were my client, I would encourage you to get adjusted just to make sure there is nothing that is possibly hindering baby's position. I would also work with you a lot on the spinning babies regime. Of course baby can turn at any time. My biggest concern would be talk of induction immediately following an inversion if birthing in a hospital setting. However, I know mommas who had successful versions and then had their babies without further intervention later. Hope Baby flips for you and you have the birth you desire!!
